Liver Biliary Tracts

Text:

Harms MH et al, J Hepatol. 2019;71(2):357–65

Primary biliary cholangitis (PBC): A current multicenter cohort study demonstrates that ursodeoxycholic acid prolongs the transplant-free survival in patients with PBC. Indeed, the 10-year transplant-free survival was approx. 80% versus approx. 60% in patients without treatment. This benefit of ursodeoxycholic acid was independent of disease stage and observed biochemical response.

Text:

Moayyedi P et al, Gastroenterology. 2019;157(2):403–12.e5

Pantoprazol to prevent gastrointestinal events in patients receiving rivaroxaban and/or aspirin: Results of this large trial of more than 17.000 patients indicate that routine use of pantoprazole did not reduce upper gastrointestinal events, but resulted in a significant reduction of bleeding events. However, these events occurred rarely and the number needed to treat was therefore very high.
