Nivolumab plus Ipilimumab in microsatellite-instability-high (MSI-H) or mismatch-repair-deficient (dMMR) metastatic colorectal cancer: Progression-free survival (PFS) was longer with nivolumab plus ipilimumab than with chemotherapy among patients who had not previously received systemic treatment for MSI-H or dMMR metastatic colorectal cancer in this phase 3 trial (PFS after 24 months: 72% vs. 14%).

Clinical consequences of computer-aided colorectal polyp detection (CADe): Even if CADe appeared to be slightly more sensitive than human endoscopists in this trial, the additional gain in adenoma detection rate was minimal and follow-up intervals rarely changed.
Tunali V et al, Am J Gastroenterol. 2024;119(9):1901-1912
Dietary approaches for treating irritable bowel syndrome (IBS): A microbiome-based artificial intelligence-assisted personalized diet resulted in similar symptom improvements as compared to a low FODMAP diet in IBS patients in this randomized multicenter trial.

Moderate alcohol consumption leads to a significantly increased risk of fibrosis in individuals with metabolic-associated liver disease: This study examined 2 cohorts of individuals with metabolic-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) from Spain and the United States regarding their alcohol consumption. Even low amounts of alcohol consumption were associated with a significantly increased risk of significant liver fibrosis. In addition, the number of cardiovascular risk factors was associated with significant fibrosis.
Premkumar M et al, Gastroenterology. 2024;167(7):1429-1445
Recompensation of decompensated liver cirrhosis after antiviral therapy for chronic hepatitis C infection: In this prospective cohort of individuals with decompensated HCV-related liver cirrhosis, it was shown that antiviral therapy leads to recompensation in around 25% of individuals after 4 years of follow-up. New decompensation events occurred in around 20% of individuals, despite successfull HCV therapy.

Shiha MG et al, Gut. 2024;73(12):1944-1952
Clinical outcomes of potential coeliac disease (PCD): Almost a third of patients with PCD with ongoing gluten-containing diet develop villous atrophy over time, whereas a similar proportion experience normalisation of serology. However, most symptomatic PCD patients benefit from a gluten-free diet.

Leonhardt CS et al, Gastroenterology. 2024;167(5):977-992
Prognostic factors for early recurrence after resection of pancreatic cancer: This meta-analysis revealed that preoperative CA19-9 serum concentrations, lymph node status, non-delivery of adjuvant therapy, grading and tumor size based on imaging were key prognostic factors of pancreatic cancer recurrence following resection.
